The Nemitz Robotics Group at Worcester Polytechnic Institute is currently looking for PhD students. Available projects are fully funded and will focus on (i) non-electronic soft robotics for healthcare and rescue, and (ii) embedded machine learning and soft system design for human-robot interactions. For more information, please contact Professor Nemitz.
Our paper on soft memory has been published at IEEE International Soft Robotics Conference. We explored the concept of storing information permanently into soft materials freeing the way for sequential logic and soft computers. This is yet another step towards non-electronic intelligence in robotic systems. Video
Our paper on soft ring oscillators has been published in Science Robotics. We demonstrate how simple logic gates can be stacked to generate oscillating pneumatic signals and motion. Another step towards non-electronic robots (computers), and in this case, computer clocks.
